How to Make Pour Over and Drip Coffee

We all love our coffee differently, and our preferred method of brewing them often varies. Undoubtedly, making a perfect cup of coffee isn’t without it technicalities, and some of the most crucial factors are the ideal brew time, water temperature, and coffee ground size.

Pour Over Coffee 

This method of brewing coffee involves running hot over fresh coffee grounds and allowing the ensuing coffee–water mixture to drip into a receptacle below. It doesn’t require the use of a coffee maker. Using this method, a cup of coffee takes about 2mins 30second – 3 minutes to brew.

How To Make Pour Over Coffee

This method of brewing coffee affords you greater control over how the water is poured over the freshly grounded coffee beans and at what speed. Consequently, the brew can be made to suit an individual’s preferred flavor and taste. The procedures include:

1. Heat a minimum of 600 grams (20 oz) of water and bring it to a boil, i.e., about 205 °F (96 °C).
2. Get your coffee beans and grind.
3. Measure 30 grams (3 tablespoons) of ground coffee and ensure the ground coarseness is consistent with that of sea salt. (For a single-origin coffee from lightly roasted coffee bean it is recommended that you mix 23 grams of coffee per 350 grams of water.

4. Place the filter in the coffee dripper.

5. Rinse the filter by pouring hot water through the filter and into the brewer for about 5 seconds. Discard the rinse water from the brewer with the filter held in place. This rinsing process helps to remove any papery taste and plugs the filter inside the dripper.

6. Pour the ground coffee into the filter and shake gently to evenly distribute the ground.

7. Mount the brewer on top of a cup or any other convenient receptacle. Then place this whole setup on a scale.

8. Pour the hot water and watch the coffee bloom. Start the timer and pour water slowly over the grounds. Continue pouring water until the scale reads 60 grams and while pouring water stir to evenly saturate the ground.

9. After pouring, leave the coffee to drip. The pouring process should take 15 seconds, and the dripping should take 30 seconds. Repeat this pouring and dripping process 3-4 times. Then you can decant and enjoy your cup of coffee.

Drip Coffee

This method of brewing coffee is most commonly used at home.

How To Make Drip Coffee

1. Measure the required amount of coffee grounds.
2. Place the grounds into the basket of the device and the corresponding amount of water in the other cartridge.
3. Turn on the machine/automatic brewer and let it go to work on its own (the water is heated and sprinkled over the grounds through the showerhead)
4. Your pot of coffee will be decanted in the pot at the base of the machine.
